Making a Difference ... Each and Every Day

Dear Jeff,

I decided to write you this Thank You note as I approach my 18-month anniversary at Hope for Tomorrow. I still have two more days to go but I think I will make it, in fact I really do not think I will ever have to worry about “making it” ever again. I feel confident, by God’s grace, that I will never return to the misery and despair of alcohol again. This is a transformation that can only be attributed to you, Hope for Tomorrow, and Community Christian Church.

Eighteen months ago I was fresh out of rehab, homeless, jobless, financially destroyed and feeling very much alone. I only had a couple of assets, 30 days clean, tentative family support, and a counselor from my first rehab that had a three-quarter house in Aurora. As it turns out, these seemingly pitiful resources turned out to be huge!

I joined Hope for Tomorrow and was coasting along rather well, much as I did during my first rehab, but not doing more than the minimum. You kept coaxing to go to Community Christian Church for a Tuesday meeting. I wanted nothing to do with church of any kind.

I finally agreed to go after a couple of weeks with the sole intention of saying, “OK I went, I did not like it, I’ll stick to meetings”. I could not have been more misguided. At CCC I found what I was missing in my recovery, spirituality. Spirituality turned to faith, a strong faith. You also encouraged me to get involved in service work, at HFT, church wherever.

Bottom line, I now have two good jobs, including being part of Hope for Tomorrow’s staff, and I am also a leader in the church. I have been blessed with many friends and a family that now is very happy to see me. I am also well on my way to financial recovery. I have a life full of work giving back to my fellow man through the HFT and the church; it is very fulfilling and gratifying. All these blessing I have are because you helped me find my way back to God. This is a gift beyond compare and one that I will cherish the rest of my life.

Sincerely,

Steve D.
